Hmm...

Half-life 2 is like a AU ( Astronomical Unit, the distance from Earth to the Sun ) ahead of Halo

Never played any of the Halo series... don't care to. HL is still the best franchise around IMO. Compelling story, great characters, good GFX and the gravity gun... need I say more!!!

I know this is your post glowing nissan, but i think you would have done better in asking a comparison with HL2 vs Doom3, or vs Stalker, Bioshock, etc. Halo pales in all the above things you mention except a close call on gameplay. But take that away and you have nothing on HL.

Doom3 was ok surkitz...

Stalker was a big pile of crap, all STALKER did was steal enties from HL2 and Doom games and put it into a game that you need a good computer to play, but ends up looking like some DX7 game :|

yeah i never played Doom 3 but i did the old games. I want to played D3 but i heard that its not that much different than the old games other than the fact more amazing guns, a hell lot scarier, a like 100x better graphics.

As far as I'm concerned, Halo is practically the same thing, except with vehicles, very trivial mission objections and a touch of tactical difficulty. You think they could fit more into such an "epic" game other than mowing through enemy lines with a pair of SMGs and driving a banshee.

I thought Halo was absolutely amazing when i first played it, but then i got Half-Life, and then I got Halo 2, and then i recently bought Half-Life 2.

So your right surkitz. What I'm actually wondering is, what FPS has the most compelling story, still retains mad fun gameplay, but at the same time isnt so repetive and linear? I'm looking at either Bioshock or Condemned Criminal Origins, since Halo isnt in that league at all.

I shouldve used a better example, like FEAR. (some say better?) graphics and gameplay than HL2. still, we have to look at history here. What was around when doom3 debuted? Nothing anyone had seen in 3d effects had come close to it. Besides a linear storyline and no challenge in thought, the game set a new bar in SCI FI horror since the first HL. I also think its interesting that when a new fps is created, its the sci fi genre that is used to show off the next new thing in terms of graphics and game play. Yeah you have your call of dutys, but SCI FI is King when it comes to the developers competing for the best action, graphics, and gameplay. We are about to witness this very thing im talking about with Crysis.

I don't think crysis is all that good, I tried the demo on my friends computer ( his specs: nVidia 8800 sli, 300gig 10,000rpm raptor hard drive, AMD fx2 or something like that, 1000w psu and other stuff im too lazy to add ) and it was ok... they put too much hype for games these days.

MGS4: Guns of Patriots and Assassin's Creed is still high in the list for me, if they happen to make crysis less crazy specs then i'll buy it, but I doubt they'll do that because they know everyone has a DX10 card ( sarcasm )

I remember playing Half-life 2 when it was released and I was blown away by the graphics/physics and gameplay, Halo 2 didnt have this impact at all.

That said, to me Halo 2 pwns Half-life 2 "like a million to one" because of *BLANK

What are you comparing anyway? Half-life 2s release on PC with Halo 2's release on PC? Halo 2 is rotting away and its on PC to promote Vista and make money its doomed to be nothing special. Half-life 2 was the opposite

*I can't help it - m M MUH Multiplayer!

Games that fit that category are System Shock 2, Deus Ex, Clive Barker's Undying, Manhunt (not FPS but still fits the bill IMO), Thief: The Dark Project and F.E.A.R. There might be more but those are all that I could think of now.

Deus Ex
I played Deus Ex: Invisible War on the computer awhile back ( I think I was like 12 ) and it was the best game I ever played, it's a game where you have choices, if you do good things you'll get reputation and you'll get other missions, if you do bad stuff ( like in the casino part, if you don't turn in the mafia people to the police ) you'll get hella lot of money and a few assassination missions

Invisible War wasn't bad, but it was a blot on the original game. Deus Ex was as close as you could get to a perfect action game. If only Ion Storm still existed today...

Half-Life 2 is just much better. Halo actually has very little variety. It's either move ahead and kill things, or stay here and kill things. Your objective is always just to move forward and kill things. People seem to think it's strategic, when all you really need to do is toss a grenade, shoot with your strongest weapon or most accurate weapon depending on your distance, and occasionally stand behind something when your shields go down. Your weapons are simply weapons, they aren't tools. Like in F.E.A.R., your grenades absolutely devastate enemies, they don't the ability to dive 10 feet horizontally, and in Half-Life, grenades are just as useful for splitting your enemies up as they are as explosives. Halo does what it's supposed to do, yet some people think that it's somehow strategic, and it's not. It's a simple shooter that puts entertainment before thoughtful combat and intricate gameplay.
