merge two partitions in vista home premium

i have two drives c and d and want ot merge/combine them, could you please tell how to do it?
 
It could get messy. Any good reason to do it? Why not buy a new drive 10 times bigger, clone C: onto it, and have a ginormous new D: in the rest of the space?

To give sensible advice, you need to give more detail, such as what is on C: and D:, for instance are there programs installed on D:, or just data etc etc
 
Norton PartitionMagic could do this if it is on the same drive. You can combine them without affecting Windows.
