System Error: Cat:(102) Event: 1003 - Blue Screen Error frequently.

On my GENESIS pc (view my specs) which i built myself earlier this year, it has been fine for months, and just recently, i have been happily sat downloading, browsing the net, listening to music, and all of a sudden, system crash, followed by a BSOD.

I switched off "automatic restart", i have not taken down the details of the BSOD yet, but i will do if required. When i reboot, i have an alert "the system has recovered from a serious error".

The details contain:

Error code 100000d1, parameter1 00022c36, parameter2 00000002, parameter3 00000000, parameter4 f2c08ba5.

This occured one evening, and after a reboot, about 1 hour later, occured again. It seems to occur once or twice every day, after the pc has been running for about 4 hours, it varies each time, there isnt really a pattern.

When it happens, i am usually just running Winamp5.5 listening to music, using MSN Messenger Plus! (latest version) and browsing the net with firefox (latest version).

From reading online forums of similar problems, i decided to run a memcheck, and found, after waiting for 8 passes, no errors.

I ran a boot scheduled disk check, and again, no errors.

I ran an AVG virus scan, no problems, and all the usual diagnostics, no problems.

I had a quick look in Device Manager and all hardware seems to be detected and fuctioning properly.

Apart from that, my system operates fine, and i experince no ther errors.

I am finding it rather annoying, occasionally just freezing, losing all my work, and have not yet thought of a simple way to resolve it.

I dont really wnat to do the whole "reinstall windows" thing, because, as im sure you all agree, is a pain in the bum.

Thanks for you time, can anyone help?

At first sight this could be the result of a windows update messing with a driver, or possibly a recent driver update. Have you tried going back on a recent driver update or possible a system restore to see if this cures it? The trouble with intermittent BSDs like this is that it can take an age to check!

I would try a system restore, but i choose to have the windows system restore disabled, instead, i use Norton ghost 9.0 to keep a backup of my drive. Its rather interesting, i found file in my documents, which every time i select (even just for file properties) Windows Data Execution Prevention closes explorer.exe

It has been since i have had this file that the BSOD have occured, so i removed it from my system and have had my pc running for over 24 hours now, without any problems.

Before i speak to soon, i dont know if this has resolved the problem, but the problem seems to have stopped.

On the driver side, i was a little concered that i have onboard 256MB graphics for my main display, and i have an additional 32MB PCI card for my secondary display (an old card i had laying about) But, both displays work fine, and have done for several months, the possability of a windows update effecting this is worth concidering.

I will continue to test my pc, and will keep you posted on how things are going.

Thanks again for the idea, sounds highly possible, i will keep it in mind if the problem continues.

Guy's based on may experience been working in a technical support for 8 years we have many things to speculate but the main point on this is you got a problem in your hardware specially on your memory. try to change memory or if you have more than two memory inserted into your MOBO try one by one. Then test it if the BSOD will come again.
