Vista - Defrag druing Safe Mode - Attempt

I usually go to safe mode in XP to defrag a drive so that less things are tied up by the system.

I was trying to do the same thing with Vista but when I click defrag, nothing happens.
Is defragging and maybe other operations disabled in Vista during safe mode?
Works fine on normal Vista boot up.

Thanks in advance for the heads up.
 
Go for O&O Defrag - I found that to be much better - costs though

Gave me near enough 100% defragmentation (took hours lol but it was a 300GB drive almost full)
 
Well, it's not that it's not doing well enough for my purposes. It's just something I found to be odd and I was wondering if anyone had a definite answer.
