Windows Debugger Symbols

Hi, I've downloaded the WinDbg tools for looking at minidumps, but it always tells me that it can't find symbols.

I've tried doing what it says here but whenever i put the writing into the command line it comes up with varying messages, all basically saying it won't work.

If anybody can offer me some good instructions on getting the Debugging Tools to get these symbols it would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

When you started Windbg did you go to File>Symbol File Path and paste this in the box:

SRV*c:\symbols*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols

You only have to do that once and it will work every time you use the debugger.

Cheers guys, it stopped telling me that it can't find symbols

However, the program seems to have a problem with remembering things. It never saves anything in the Recent Files list and each time I close the program it forgets the location of the symbols.

Would clicking yes to "save workspace information" fix this?

Bit of an update, I clicked yes to save workspace information and it's saved the symbols path now.

It still hasn't been adding items to recent files but oh well.

After clicking save info... it saves the last folder that you opened from as well, if you click Yes after opening a minidump.
