ALCXWDM.sys

Can anyone help! I keep getting the dreaded Blue screen in WindowsXP with the following message: -

Windows has encountered a problem and will shut down to protect your system.

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Memory dump starts-------

STOP: 0X000000D1 (0X00000024, 0X00000011, 0X000000, 0XF75034C3)

ALCXWDM.sys - Address F&%)£$C£ base at F74F0000 Datestop 3ef16688

Does anyone know what causes this and if so how does one cure it.

KB317326

With all due respect, that KB article is about a problem shutting down and USB drivers. ALCXWDM.SYS is not mentioned anywhere in the article, and the op (and my own) problem is blue screening in the middle of running (in my case, gaming).

Any better advice from anyone? I am fully SP'ed, btw....

This is the onboard sound on your mobo. You probably were silly enough to install MS drivers for it. Go to your motherboard manufacturers website and get the real drivers.
