i also had a problem - what you do is you
- unistall ALL ATI programs listed in the add/remove programs under the control panel - restart in safe mode - open REGEDIT - backup youre registry - delete hkey_current_user\software\ATI technologies hkey_local_machine\software\ati hkey_local_machine\software\ati technologies - close and restart (normal mode) - the system will redetect the card and install default drivers - restart again once prompted - windows will install your monitor and then you install directx9 - now install the latest catalyst driver which is 4.3 - you can get this at -ati that worked for me as i was told by the ATI guys, it should work for you -ati Last edited by SornyPanafonic; 03-11-2004 at 01:31 AM.. |

I've proceeded according to your piece of advice, step by step, but my system (Win XP SP2 Home) didn't install default drivers, WinXP CD was in CD-Drive and I have working internet connection, however it said that default drivers cannot be found... do you have any idea what's going on? You say the screen goes blank, do you mean you don't get anything, or the screen goes blank for a few seconds? Is the new card being shown at all in Device Manager as being installed? I not quite sure if you are saying it is or not. If it's not, remove the card and reinsert it in the slot making sure it is firmly seated correctly. Reboot, and if it is detected, Windows should find it, and want to install drivers. Don't let it, click cancel, twice if I remember correctly, you want to install the drivers you have on the cd or downloaded, not Windows default drivers.
Download Driver Cleaner. Look in the Add/Remove panel and see if you see ATi drivers and Control panel listed. If you do, uninstall them, and reboot into Safe Mode. Then run Driver Cleaner, running first the Cab Cleaner, then the Driver Cleaner after highlighting ATi. BE patient, the Cab Cleaner will take a while and you may think nothing is going on. The Driver Cleaner should be pretty quick. After this try reinstalling the latest driver set that you downloaded, or the one on the cd. I would try the set that has only the Control Panel, and not the Control Center version. You don't need the .Net Framework with the older Control Panel. If you get things working, you can always go back and get the newer Control Center if you like. I find I like the older one better, but that's your option. Edit: Another way to install your drivers, after unstalling by the above method, would be go do it through Device Manager, doing a manual install. You would have to tell it where the drivers are loacated, ie, cd or desktop, then let it install, but the above method should work ok. Also, it would be helpful if you would post all your computer specs, especially what power supply you have, watts, and brand. And another thing, did you have another video card installed before the new one, or did you use onboard graphics. If you had onboard graphics utilized, you need to disable that, or your new card will not work properly. Edit 2: If you had another brand card iinstalled previously, ie. and nVidia card, run Driver Cleaner a second time before installing the new drivers, highlight nVidia, let it clean any old remnants of those drivers also. So i'll try to explain all the situation
I got new PC, with HIS Radeon 9600PRO on Epox 8KDA3+ NFORCE3 S754 with ATHLON 64 3200+ s754 Yesterday i've reinstalled system(formated system disk and installed fresh WIN XP SP2 home). After installing, windows has detected a new VGA device, it tried to install default drivers but it couldnt find it, so drivers were not installed I installed Frameworok 1.1 and downloaded SP1 for this program, then I installed DirectX9. I launched the latest Catalyst Setup downloaded from ati.com, and installed drivers, Device Manager has seen my card properly as HIS Radeon 9600 series. However, it didn't work properly, in CCC there is 3d a graphic test - with 3d preview - some car driving on the road - and on my display it was not looking good, image was blurred or sth, also blurred are icons(flowers and smiles) in icq - important that after uninstalling ATI drivers, when card is seen as a default VGA device (default frequency of monitor, default resolution) icq icons look good... Today I turn the PC on, and after launching windows, screen got blank, not for few seconds, but "forever", after rebooting situation repeated. I reboot in safe mode, proceeded steps from SornyPanafonic's post, and once again system coudln't find default drivers, so I installed latest CCC, and I suppose when I turn PC off and turn on after some time I'll see blank display... I bought my PC not in my town, and before complaining I'd like to check all the possibilities of working this problem out by myself, because complaining will be a problem for me... Ati 9700 Pro for Windows Xp
This was for ati9700 pro but i hope it works for other ati products to.
After months of trying to install Ati 9.08 if finally got it to work, here's how... Step 1. Go to ati website and download all necessary software and drivers for your computer and burn them to a cd. Also keep your original "catalyst software" cd you'll need it. Step 2. Uninstall all previous ati software (mine came with version 8.0). Step 3. Turnoff your computer and physical replace an old video card back into your computer and turn it on. This is to ensure the computer didn’t have any memory of the old video card. Step 4. Turnoff the computer and switch video cards again, and turn it on. Step 5. Then simply install the NEW drivers and software products. (Remember NEVER mixed older version of ati software/drivers with new one). This is a list of all the drivers and software I used to get ati 9.08 to work 1.9-08_mmc_enu 2.9-08_mmc_uci 3. aticdwiz (This program is going to ask for the an original "catalyst software" cd 4.5-8_xp-2k_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_25203 5.5-8_xp-2k_dd_cp_wdm_25203 6. Hydravision-3-25-0006 7. dxwebsetup 8.3-02_rw_enu 9. setup (decoder) 10. GuidePlus (OPTIONAL) note* not necessary to get the video card working but is a nice program. All this can be found on ati's website https://support.ati.com/ics/support/...ge&folderID=27 Last edited by Philodox; 09-03-2005 at 02:04 PM.. |
