The Argon AR03 seem somewhat tied initially as the former loses points for compatibility due to its massive size, while the latter was disappointingly noisy. However, when you realize you have to reduce the AR03's fan speed to achieve a tolerable operating volume, we'd say the Macho Rev.A has an edge, making it the best $50 heatsink available in our eyes.

Ultimately, you need to choose the cooler that best fits your build and purposes. If it fits within your budget and you have a socket that would make the most of it, I would feel comfortable recommending the AR03. There’s quite a bit of cooling performance there for the price, and the fan mounting system is great to work with.

Even with the larger heatspreader of our LGA1366 test chip, the AR03's performance advantage was negligible, at least using the included stock fan. Our reference fan gave it about a 2°C lead, not a lot, but enough to place it among the ranks of the truly elite single fan heatsinks.

One feature that cannot be overlooked is the mounting of the fans to the cooler. The little rubber mounts made the procedure so effortless. We wish that they were compatible with other coolers to help us test various fans. Oh well. The size of the SilverStone Argon AR03 should be another reason to consider it.
