Undertale is one of the most unique efforts seen in indie gaming. Combining a love for the old with a willingness to innovate and utilize game mechanics to express ideas, rather than a binary input-output, this game should be on any and every one’s radar.

If you go back the last couple years and look at the games that received the most hype, you could draw two conclusions. Either the market for quirky RPGs in the vein of Earthbound is underserved, or the base that craves them has some of the most...

This game is totally deserving of the hype its received since it first launched on PC two years ago. Although its not the prettiest, it is one of the most...

It's far from a perfect game - Fox once self-deprecatingly described it as an 8/10, and that's just about spot on, with pacing issues and a lack of thought placed into some of the encounters dragging it down - but it is near enough required playing.

A long time ago, two races ruled peacefully over the Earth: HUMANS and MONSTERS. One day, a terrible war broke out between the two races. After a long battle, the humans were victorious. They sealed the monsters underground with a magical spell. In the...

A game that came as a breath of fresh air in a room full of remasters, remakes and rehashes, Undertale is a tale like no other. Unique, witty and fun, that is what Undertale is all about and it doesn't take long to establish that. Taking inspiration...

What instrument does a wisecracking skeleton play? Why, a trom-bone of course. Welcome to Undertale, the remarkable RPG by indie developer tobyfox, where comedian corpses, monsters bursting with existential ennui, and talking flowers all combine into a...

For a game developed by a single person, Undertale is as contradictory as they come. It uses rudimentary graphics that wouldn't be out of place in the 8-bit era of consoles yet it manages to display emotion far better than most photorealistic AAA...

It's hard to express just how much I adore Undertale without spoiling anything significant, but that's what I love about it. It tells its story in such a dynamic way, and with such a great understanding of the RPG player's mindset, that it couldn't have...

Undertale is a superb indie role-player that proves once again that it’s not graphics that make a game entertaining but gameplay and great ideas.

By GameSpot on November 20, 2015 90

Undertale's opening cinematic hints at a cliche RPG where you awake in a mysterious world and embark on a journey in hopes of returning to your normal life. Despite the familiar premise, you quickly discover that looks can be deceiving. While many games...

Undertale is fantastic in ways that are hard to describe. It's a love letter to RPGs, gamers, and gaming in general.

By VentureBeat on November 19, 2015 100

It’s rare for a game to so ruthlessly and completely nail the altered reality games place us in the way Undertale does. Whether it’s the nameless NPCs you always meet in RPGs or the hundreds of mooks you mow down with gunfire in games like Uncharted, Undertale brilliantly demystifies these conventions and questions why games are still codified this way. But even outside of its ambitious themes, it proves to be a compact, perfectly paced RPG experience with hilarious, tense writing and endearing charaters.

By Hooked Gamers on October 27, 2015 98

No Death Required Undertale's most talked about feature is also its most unlikely: an RPG where you don't have to kill anyone is a pretty unique idea all on its own. So unique that one might wonder if the concept is strong enough to make a worthwhile...

Definitely check this one out. Undertale is a delightful, heartfelt game. Over the course of a nine-hour initial run it blossoms from a minimalist bag of gags into a living world that demands attention. Revisiting the world with different intentions strengthens and twists those bonds to create a unique experience filled with memorable characters and invigorating choice. Replaying Undertale is practically required to understand just what's going on, so mark your calenders accordingly and lock in. Whatever strange alchemy tobyfox captured in Undertale does the trick.
