250Gig HDD not recognized

    hi ,everybody i have a dell d600 laptop with a 40 gb harddrive and 2 gb memory . my question is i am trying to install a 250 gb harddrive ,but the laptop doesn't recognise the drive ,so i can't install windows on it . i even bought vista .the laptop won't recognise the drive .help

    Have you checked to make sure the new hard drive meets Dell's specs for that model laptop? The D600 is a bit old isn't it? Important laptop drive specs are speed (5400, 7200rpm) and capacity (> 100GB) and type (PATA, SATA)...

    update bios in your laptop. if you're lucky(and quanta's platform too :)) the HDD will be recognized. :)

    guys i found the problem . there is a little jumper pin on the end of the old harddrive .i took it off and put it on the new one and now all is good .
