hi,
im about to buy a pc from my friend. it has a quad core processor and 4 gigs of ram. for the minute i dont really know anymore than that. just wondering what windows would be better to install at that rate? i know each have pros and cons such as compatability and what not, but im finding it have to find a definate answer! and help/advice/opinion is appreciated.
cheers.

If the system is a 64 bit system, then either the 32 bit or 64 bit version of windows will work. If the system is a 32 bit system then only a 32 bit operating system will work.

I don't know of any modern 4-Core processors that aren't 64bit.

I'd check the motherboard and make sure the manufacturer has 64bit drivers for everything, then check your peripherals for 64bit drivers. If you are covered there then there really is no reason not to go 64bit. Unless maybe you were thinking XP64.. and in that case you may just be better off going 32.

thanks, i should have clarified, i have no intention of using anything besides xp! :) so i was wondering really about xp pro 32 bit versus xp 64 bit!
