Roku and 3M have partnered up to announce a new pico projector that’s small enough to fit in your hand and can beam images in WVGA resolution up to 120-inches across with a brightness of 60 lumens. The device is bundled with a Roku Streaming Stick so you can stream online content and enjoy a big-screen cinema experience anywhere you have a Wi-Fi signal and a large flat surface to project them on.
The Roku Streaming Stick connects to the back of the 3M Streaming Projector via an HDMI slot which is specially designed so it doesn’t stick out. Streaming services like Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon Instant, Pandora, MLB.TV, and hundreds more are available. Since the HDMI port is MHL-enabled, not only could you hook up other streaming devices or a Blu-ray player, but potentially also a smartphone that supports the Mobile High-definition Link standard like the Samsung Galaxy S3 and beam its contents to the big screen.
The device has a battery life rated at just under three hours, which is enough time to watch most blockbuster movies, and also features a 3.5mm headphone jack for audio out as well as an inbuilt speaker.
The 3M Streaming Projector will be available exclusively at Amazon for $300. That includes the price of the Roku Streaming Stick, which arrives this fall priced between $50 and $100. Pre-orders are open now and include a $20 Amazon Instant credit, with shipments expected to begin later this month on October 22.
