4gig File, WinXP and FAT32?

Hi my brother has a RAR file that is over 4gigs and he is using WinXP with a FAT32 partition to extract it. The thing is he can't. I was wondering if he makes a secondary partition as an NTFS format he can extract the file or does the OS have to be on the NTFS partition? I thought WinXP can handle large RAR files

XP can remain as FAT32, but it would be recommended to convert that partition to NTFS.
You will need an NTFS partition anyway to handle a file of that size.
Copy that file onto the NTFS partition and then you can do with it as you like, even from a FAT32-OS.
