  1. I am wondering which board would be better for gaming: an ASUS 6800 XT 128mb #N6800XT/TD/128 or and eVGA 6600GT 128 mb # 128-A8-N350.

The 6600GT is $2.00 more than the 6800.

I have an AGP board and I want to upgrade to something (before all the AGP boards are phases out) that will perform okay for the next couple of years, then I'll go to a SLI motherboard.

the 6800xt will bloow a 6600gt away because it (the 6800xt) has 256-bit vs the 6600gt's 128, and the xt has 12? pips vs the 6600gts 8

Well, basically if you wanna play 1280x1024 then the 6800XT will pull ahead..

The 6800XT only has 8 pipes. A 6800 or 6800GT will be a huge leap over a 6600GT. And like swker98 says, with 256bit memory you can run games at higher resolutions. The 6600's are only 128. Id get the 6800GT. Most can be overclocked to Ultra levels.

The 6800XT has DDR1 mem...the 6600GT has GDDR3...the 6600GT IS a faster card at 800x600 but as you crank up the res the 12 pipes of the 6800XT show their muscle

god i do love those 6800GS's....too bad their based on the NV42 architecture....we could've unlocked for more pipes...oh well..they come with 12 pipes and have huge frequencies..i think about 450/1000 and they're 256-bit!! such a steal...

I just picked between the 6800 and the 6600GT. I chose the 6600GT. It is a lot faster, and cheaper. If you can afford it, the best card so far mentioned is the 6800 GT. Incredible performance. Good Luck.

    Thanks

Thanks for all the usefull comments. I chose the 6800XT. WOW! What a huge difference over my old, slow piece of junk Radeon All in Wonder 32 MB card. It plays all my games in the highest resolutions and runs smooth as silk. Thanks again for the input.
