A bit more authority to the OP (for troubleshooting-related threads only)

Had this on my mind for some time now.
Here are a few examples:
1) I posted a thread asking for help with malfunctioning monitor. Thanks to the helpful members, the problem was solved. Now I need to mark it as solved to help future browsers with a similar issue. Unfortunately, I don't have the option to do that, except for reporting the thread to the moderators as solved. This creates unnecessary work and wait.
2) I posted a thread asking for help with malfunctioning monitor. Thanks to the helpful members, the problem was solved. I didn't/didn't want to officially state whether it was solved or not. Just said thanks.

How about adding a "Mark as Solved" tool which would be exclusively available to the OP and (of course) the staff?

Personally I really like this idea!

Just speaking for myself, I like venturing into support forums and such with this "solved" thing! For me I've noticed that when I have any type of problem, technology based or otherwise, I like going into support areas with whatever issue is at hand and have the ability to see resolved issues. For me having the ability to just scan the "solved" problems really saves me a lot of time and minimizes my efforts.

Just a quick non-update. I've read your messages but unfortunately we've been really busy trying to fix some server issues we are having since the transition a few weeks ago. Until we can get a completely stable platform I'm afraid any kind of cosmetic (or functional) tweaks are not priority #1 -- after all what good is a new feature if the site is going down twice a week :\

Just a small comment here. It is best if the OP stays out of the Thread Edits section. I don't think only the 'Solved' edit could be approved.

We've had people in the V&M Forum mark a thread Active using the thread edits. So what happened because of that is the thread didn't get picked up by a helper because one helper thought the other helper picked it up and it Active.

Instead, suggest you say 'Thank you, problem solved.

And keep in mind that what worked for you may not work for someone else.
