Hi guys - i am really confused

I have adsl internet with pipex 4mb

using an netgear wireless router

went around my m8's house, took my router with me changed username n paswword to his.

he is on tiscali adsl 2mb

after we finish LAN, i take my router home, set up pc, plug router in.

Internet comes on??? with my friends tiscali username n password!!

I got my ip address and its different from usuall

i got his ip address and both our ip ranges are the same 79.66.

i am gettign 4mb in, and he is getting 2mb. can any one explain how this is happening.

ADSL requires a username/password if your line is ADSL enabled then any account will work, your getting download rate of 4mb as this is the account that you have and is registered to your phone number that the ADSL comes in through, where as your mate has a 2 meg service registered to his phone number.

This is purely a guess as I use cable for my internet but we deal a lot with ADSL systems at work.

Tiscali and Pipex are the same company (as of August) and they probably simply merged their user databases.
The line speed limits are hardcoded at the DSLAM, so the speed you get depends on the phone line you are using, not the PPPoE username.
