I'm new to this community so first I would like to say hello to all. I hope you can help me. My computer periodically gives me a blue screen and an error message that reads...

"A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

PFN_LIST_CORRUPT

..."

It goes on and then gives the following stop codes...

0x0000004E (0x00000099, 0x000FFD12, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

Any suggestions on how to fix this? The Windows Error Reporting function said that my BIOS needs to be upgraded to accomodate my CPU. What do you think?

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Please would you take a few moments to read this post. A message for all newcomers. Thanks.

This is what Microsoft has to say about your error message.

0x0000004E: PFN_LIST_CORRUPT
This indicates that the memory management Page File Number list is corrupted. Can be caused by corrupt physical RAM, or by drivers passing bad memory descriptor lists.

Test you ram by downloading the Memtest86+ programme from www.memtest.org.

Let it run for at least seven passes. If you don`t have a floppy drive, there is an iso version, that you can burn to cd, and then boot from that.
