Hi all,

On my backup PC, when I'm in DOS and press \ it gives me an accented "a". It doesn't do this in Windows. They keyboard is set to English US. Wonder what could be causing this?

I'm running Win98SE.

Thanks

DOS keyboard is set to sth else. Check autoexec.bat and config.sys for keyboard and language localization entries.

If you can't figure out these by yourself, just post the contents here.

Sorry for not getting back to you. The PC has two OSs, one that I use on drive D, and drive C was left intact after I installed Windows on Drive D. Drive C is also too small to use. However, there is not autoexec.bat or config.sys on the D drive. Autoexec from the C drive has this in it:

rem - By Windows 98 Network for Netware Upgrade - D:\WINDOWS\lsl.com
SET BLASTER=A240 I5 D1 T4
LH C:\WINDOWS\AU30DOS.COM

PATH=%PATH%

SET GMAXLOC=D:\gmax\
mode con codepage prepare=((850) D:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\ega.cpi)
mode con codepage select=850
keyb cf,,D:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\keybrd2.sys
rem - By Windows 98 Network for Netware Upgrade - D:\WINDOWS\odihlp.exe

config.sys has:

Rem TShoot:
C:\My Documents\succes.wav
device=D:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\display.sys con=(ega,,1)
Country=002,850,D:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\country.sys

That pretty much says it all.. it's set to Canadian French keyboard. If you just remove those lines, it'll be US.
