Acer Aspire 1410 external screen issue

    My year old acer aspire 1410 has about 1/4 of the screen on the far left covered in several different colors of stripes. The stripes do not apper in screen shots and have no effect on the computers perfomance. The area in the bottom left corner of screen gets very hot and I can tamper with the color of the stripes by pushing on the hot area. I cant figure it out and would like to know if this is something that I can fix at home or I need to spend money to get some one to fix it.
    Any ideas?

    Yes the LCD panel is damaged and it will need to be replaced. The panel would be around $130 plus labor to replace
