Acer laptop keyboard lock won't boot

    Hi Please can anyone help-my daugter goes back to Uni tomorrow-she was using the laptop-IES woulf not connect-I tried to find out why-started Policy diagnostics service then decided to restart and plugged power supply in. Now will not reboot-lock symbol lit up but will not reboot-trid plugging in External monitor but to no avail.
    Seems to be the number lock key-downloaded the manual, so perhaps this is a redherring. Problem is Laptop will not boot the hard disc power light is on but screen stays blank band no sound from the hard disc
