Active X Control

  1. I wanted to use an online website, with a web cam to view our city project. I also wanted to download to Meijers photo lab photo printing services.
    A message came up to download "ACTIVE X CONTROL". " message =also, if you do there is a risk to Windows "..
    What is Active X Control? What harm can it do to Windows???

    Take a look HERE for info about Active-X.

    Only download an Active_X control if you are sure that you trust the originating website.

    What harm? any and all! I can't tell which is worse, VB scripting in Outlook/Outlook Express or
    ActiveX in the IE browser which is my motivation for moving to Thunderbird for email and Firefox for browsing.
    I now only use IE for MS Security Updates (Ms requires IE only access. What does that tell you?)
