Ad-aware vs Spybot

I use Spybot along with SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard (http://www.wilderssecurity.net/index.html) and NOTHING gets through. I also use StartupMonitor, which asks me when things try to register themselves at startup. Alot of spyware does that, like Save.exe, Weather.exe, etc. If they can't load at startup, and you block their internet access with your firewall, they aren't going to do anything but take up a wee bit of space on your hard drive, anyway.

use both ad-aware and spybot. each program has found things that the other did not find on my computer. most importantly do not install some free screensavers or other questionable programs. they have loads of spyware and adware almost for sure.

Has any one even tried the PestScan software? I have been using it with the Ad-Ware and between the two I have been free of unwanted software. www.pestscan.com or www.pestpatrol.com

Oh yes, Norton is the first problem most of the newer "bugs" crash. Go McAfee slower than some but better than most.

Surely couldn't of said that better myself! Other than M$, Norton is one of the 'bloatest' pieces of S/W out here other than being overrated and a resource hog!!!

I have tried both. I used V6 with the updates, ran that and found a couple of items.
Then I Ran Spybot V1.3b with the updates (took a while to d/l thought) and was amazed at all the entries that showed up! I think there were over 12 after I cleaned what AdAware found.

Mind you you CAN get in trouble easier with SpyBot since there are more registry entries that it will remove.
You DO have to watch what you check, but it is a hands down winner in my book!

Hah, yeah I know the feeling. After deleting over 400 once at a time once, I discovred that by right clicking, it allows you to press "Select All". Its a big help.

I've been using Ad-Aware & Spybot for ages and they complement each other, but I also recommend using Spy Sweeper (www.webroot.com) which finds spyware that the other 2 miss!

I've proved this time & time again and always run Spy Sweeper after the other 2 just to make sure.

Masque I have used Mailwasher , Spamkiller Although they are fine programs . They use the principle of large straining type lists to screen your email based on user reports.Too bulky.
Read up up on this program.http://www.digiportal.com/ Choice Mail One ( I am not trying to promote ,Just an opinion) It is small and simple and I prefer it's different approach to spam.
Let me know what you think.

Masque - If you are interested in Mail Washer, you should be able to find it at www.mailwasher.net I just checked through Google, and it's there.

So a typical Spyware search would consist of a run of AdAware, followed by Spybot & finish it off with Spy Sweeper ?

Wouldn't it be simpler not to install any progs ? ;)

Um, no. Progs were made for a reason.. gotta use whatcha gotta use ;)

To start up an old argument again, ,here is another review/test of Ad-aware and Spybot. I suppose the only way to really not have any spyware/adware is to do what Didou said, don't download anything . So, I guess I'll have to continue to use these programs..
