Add-on for Word to make worksheets for teacher?

I have a teacher friend that is wanting something that would help in making worksheets for her classroom easier. Word itself is not a good program for this and I was wondering if anyone knew of anything that would be a good program for this? She had been using a mac and appleworks which she loved but was forced to switch when the computers have gone to pc. Anyone care to comment and give some info. Thanks.

Microsoft Excel is the most common one on windows.

Thanks. What she is trying to do is just make making worksheets easier and more interesting for fifth graders.

yes i used Excel through school and still use it, Its very easy to use.
