I added a new NVIDIA FX5500 PCI Video card to an older server (ASUS PD-PLS) with only PCI slots and it hangs up during the boot sequence at the same place every time. Is there a problem with the card, or do I need to set something in the BIOS?

If the Asus motherboard had on-board video, you would have to disable the on-board video in the bios before you install the PCI video card

    thanks for the try

Yes, there is a jumper setting. I did that and it still hangs in the same place.

    found the fix

Okay. After some professional help and six hours on the bench. I have the cure. The video card and the on-board SCSII adapter were incompatible. Disabling the on-board adapter and adding an after market controller card fixed the problem.
