    I have a Compaq Presario SR1960AN which has 1024MB PC2-4200 DDR2 memory.

I purchased another 2 gig of memory and each time I have tried to add it the computer beeps and doesn't seem to load.

I have taken the original memory out and tried the new memory which didnt work either.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

did you check the new memory you purchased with the QVL to make sure it is compatible?
secondly, you didn't happen to buy something called 'high density ram' did you?
many times (and its advisable) that you use identical ram when adding memory, or at least the same brand, type (single sided, dual sided) capacity, timings, voltage, ect.

the ram must be compatible. The ram you bought isn't. It is probably high density. Many older chipsets cannot handle high density ram.

Ram should be be bought identically to ensure maximum speed and compatibility.
