Adding old RAM.. beneficial or not

Right now I have 3 gigs of pc-2 6400
I have an extra stick of pc-2 5300 1gig laying around and could throw it into my last slot. That would put me at 4 gigs but I'm wondering if the 5300 would tend to stall performace rather than the benefit i'd see from the extra 1 gig. I have windows xp pro also i've heard the 32-bit version will only see and read 3 gigs, 3.5 gigs, and 4 gigs... which number is actually true?

If you have a 32 Bit OS the extra Gig of RAM won't even show up, let alone make a difference

Yeah if your running a 32 bit OS it won't do anything and adding slower speed of RAM will slow the speed of the rest down to match it. At least that was how it used to work...
