Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 - Scanner Import Problems

Everytime I try to import a picture from the scanner I get the following error:
"Nothing was imported. The file(s) or folder(s) selected to import did not contain any supported file types, or the files are already in this Catalog."

Reason: "The file already exists in the catalog"
file: "c:/users/..../AppData/Local/T.../image1.jpg"

The error dialogue box indicates the file in the temporary folder even though I had selected a path to another drive/folder.

Also it seems to default to naming the file "image1.jpg" without giving you the option to change it...?

Anybody know how to prevent this...this is a fresh install.

hmm; first get the sanner to depost anything to the HD correctly. The Photoshop import will then work just fine.

Scanner setup

Can you be more specific? Where should the scanner be set to deposit the files? It is a Canon MX870.

Mine go to \Docs & settings\UserID\My documents\My ScanImages, but I fear I may have configured that. The Canon software creates a subdir using the datestamp like
2011_01_31\ and deposits the jpg or pdfs there
