ADSL Modem Disconnects Continually

  1. CPU - AMD Athlon 3200XP
    Motherboard - Asus A7N8X-X
    RAM - 1Gb PC3200
    Graphics - Geforce FX5200
    Modem - Conexant AccessRunner ADSL (internal PCI card)
    OS - Win XP Pro & Win 2000 Pro
    Hard Drive - Western Digital 80Gb




    About a week ago my modem started dropping the line every few seconds or so. I had my ISP check the line and it seems to be ok, i've also tried another modem and got the same problem. I'm using another PC now and it's ok so it seems to be a problem with my other system and not down to faulty cables, filters etc. The PC that has the problem is a dual boot system running XP Pro and win 2000 Pro and the problem is affecting both systems.


    I'd appreciate some help to sort this out...

    Have you done a virus scan and a spyware scan recently?

    yes ran a full system scan with AVG and also ran adaware and spybot s&d but nothing was found.

    Have you, by any chance, just subscribed to Sky? I had the same problem for a year: the only way to stay online (often, even *get* online) was to disconnect the 'phone lines connected to their equipment.

    no sky and the only thing connected to the master socket is the modem and a cordless phone which i've disconnected and turned off to see if that was causing a problem.
