Whenever you hear of a security breach, the first thing that comes to mind is stolen passwords, credit card information or more recently, medical information. Rarely do you have to worry about your sexual orientation getting out but that’s exactly what has happened with the latest security breach to go public.

One of the most popular Internet dating sites around, AdultFriendFinder, recently suffered a security breach in which personal information on nearly four million members was compromised. Attackers got away with the usual – usernames, e-mail addresses, dates of birth and postal codes – in addition to whether or not a member is straight or gay or whether they’re married and seeking some action on the side.

One might argue that information about sexual preference getting out wouldn’t be that big of a deal. After all, the person joined the site and let other members know of their sexual preference or extramarital interests. While that may be true, I’m sure there are instances where that information becoming public knowledge wouldn’t exactly be ideal.

News of the breach was first reported by UK news agency Channel 4. The site has since confirmed the breach with several other publications.

In its response, AdultFriendFinder said it has reached out to law enforcement as well as high-profile security firm FireEye to help with the investigation. Channel 4 said it stumbled across the information while was investigating the cyber underworld known as the dark web.

Well people are *****s if they put information on a site that asks if you are married and want action on the side that's just asking to be caught. Discretion is the name of the game here.

Only a percentage of married users would be worried about being "caught". I setup a dummy account there some while back to see what was up and you'd be surprised how many (public) profiles are married women with a husband who likes to watch/have threesomes. The place is a sexual cesspool.

I wonder how many Google execs names were on that list, they often seem to get up to some sort of hanky panky.

We'll never know. Google's bots will make sure to flag and scrub any such details.

You're right, especially since one of their execs was offed by a cheap hooker while od-ing on coke at the same time... Not good publicity for Google at all.
P.S. Thank you for my 1000th like davislane.

More like lack of discretion as I see it. Anyone who is concerned about security would have to be rather jar headed if they thought that this site is one that would provide security to their personal information. It has got to be a favorite target of hackers.

Getting hacked and information exposed for that particular site is more like free advertising than a bad thing haha.

This is a topic I don't have to worry about at all. I'll sit back and laugh at anyone that is worried about light shed on them from this.

If you are STUPID enough to put any personal information on a PORN site, then you deserve it.

It isn't a porn site. It's a hookup site. If you don't have personal information to share, you don't get laid. Period.

    No problem.

A dislike button is an invaluable tool that is often absent from contemporary forums. Facebook can be thanked for establishing that practice.
