Adware/spyware problem

I have what I'm sure is a common problem. My google links are redirected to other locations, my McAfee isn't able to turn certain features of itself back on, and my computer is slow.

I have read through some early posts like the Julio post and the list of steps to clean my computer. However, my browser continues to redirect the links, so I have problems trying to load HJT and other things that are linked into the previous discussion posts. As such, I can't really follow the listed steps to clean my computer. Can anyone talk me off the ledge/help?

Thanks very much.

Dave

Hi Dave :

Best to start with SPECIFIC info as to the security you already have on your computer ; also would be helpful to know the SPECIFIC Name of your Operating System and the SPECIFIC Name(s) of the "Browser(s)" you use to surf the Net ?

IF at all possible, should try and Install the FREE Malwarebytes' Anti_Malware
from www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php and "Update" it and run its "Full Scan" .

Do you have any "P2P" program(s), like Bit Comet, Bit Torrent, etc ?

P.S. "McAfee" is too general; need SPECIFIC Name AND Version Number, etc .

SpiritWind:
Thanks for your reply.

OS: Windows XP 2002 Service Pack 2
Browser: Windows IE 7.0.5730.13
McAfee: Security Center, Build 8.1.173

I don't have any P2P programs.
The link to the Malwarebyte location won't work for me on this computer; I'll try to save it to disk on another computer and install on problem computer.

Thanks again,
Dave

Thanks, tw0rld

As I mentioned in a previous post, I have a hard time following those steps because the computer won't go to any of the links. Can I download the software items on another computer, save them to a disk and then run them on the problem computer?

Thanks,
Dave

Security programs

Hi :

I do not recommend McAfee products AND as far as I know, their "Security Center"
( the version you have is outdated; from WHERE did you get it ? ) does NOT offer
protection for a computer . Since you are willing to download ( "burn" !? )
programs to a disk and then run them on the "problem" computer, I recommend
the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware I previously recommended PLUS the FREE Ver of
"SUPERAntiSpyware" from www.superantispyware.com AND since you appear
NOT to have an antiVIRUS program on your computer, the FREE Avast Antivirus
Home Edition from www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html .

I take it from your 1st Post that you actually have the latest version of HJT !?

Ok, I think I was able to install and run each of the recommended programs from the earlier list. Please see the attached logs from the 3 programs.

Thanks for any additional help,

Dave

You need to uninstall one of your Anti-virus Program(Mcafee or Avira).
Run HJT again and remove the following:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.dell4me.com/myway
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://bfc.myway.com/search/de_srchlft.html
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.espn.com/
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {4D25F926-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75} - (no file)
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.lsac.org
O15 - Trusted Zone: .turbotax.com[/url]
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.westlaw.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.musicmatch.com (HKLM)
Also you have too many programs running at windows startup;
open msconfig(win+r, then type msconfig, then choose selective startup)

smax4pnp.exe
jusched.exe
IntelMEM.exe
PCMService.exe
RealPlay.exe
SSBkgdupdate.exe
digstream.exe
DIGServices.exe
igfxtray.exe
hkcmd.exe
igfxpers.exe
apdproxy.exe
ybrwicon.exe
MotiveSB.exe
Reader_sl.exe
NeroCheck.exe
HPWuSchd2.exe
dsca.exe
sprtcmd.exe
qttask.exe
DSAgnt.exe
msmsgs.exe
GoogleToolbarNotifier.exe
sprtcmd.exe
ctfmon.exe
AdobeUpdater.exe
SUPERAntiSpyware.exe
hpqtra08.exe
hpqthb08.exe
ymetray.exe
This should lower your startup time alot.

If your are using IE do the following;

Reset IE to its default settings.

IE7

Open IE > Click Tools Menu > Select Internet Options > Select the Advance Tab > Click reset Button.

IE6

Tools > Internet Options > Programs tab > Click reset web Settings.
