Hi everyone - first post to Techspot - great forums

    need advise/help/prayers

Decided to get rid of Norton 2006 - did the uninstall - then had bits of Norton that would not go away - got their "uninstall everything" program - ran that system worked ok for about 30 mins then started to get error messages

Generic host process error message - then

DLL Loader shut down - then

System shutdown warning from NT/Authority in 30 secs

system reboots - sometimes it fails and I have to manually turn it off and power back up - sometimes it never boots othertimes does great for about 20minutes

have had 1,2 or all 3 since saturday also BSOD a couple of times when it reboots

    have run:
    full AV scan - nothing
    adware - nothing
    hitman - nothing
reg mechanic found a couple of odds and sods left by Norton

don't want to format and install but if I have to I will but what a pain ...

    appreciate any suggestions and advice

did you replace norton with some other av/firewall software immediately after?

First, we'll make sure you're fully protected and clean from any nasties. Please follow these instructions then post a new thread in the Security and Web section.

Follow these instructions BEFORE posting your HJT log.

Run CCleaner after howard or someone thats helping you in the security section gives you the all clear. If you still have some problems, post back to this thread..
