We reported here about a security flaw recently found in AOL Instant Messenger, which a remote attacker could use to take control of your PC (and to help distract the hacker from the fact that he has never had a girlfriend.)

America Online Inc. have therefore released a beta version of AIM that plugs this security hole. The test version of AIM 5.9, available here, is protected from this security flaw.

The final version of 5.9 is expected early in the fall of this year.

I use an older version of AIM at home that isn't loaded with spyware, but I guess that version is likely affected by the security hole. I've been using trillian more at home, I really don't like it that much (looks bad to start with), but I do like the ability to have 2 AIM names on at once and ICQ open all in 1 program.

I use Miranda IM myself, maybe try that if you do not like trillian SNGX1275?

There are some decent looking skins for Trillian. Maybe you should check that out first.

Is it trillian 0.74 or the Pro? 0.74 is c**p. You can try making it look better with skins though.
