Updated with new logs: please check

Preliminary issue: Google results redirected

Secondary issue: Trying to work through the 8-steps but having problems
  • Downloaded ativir; upon install got this error message: no internet connection could be created; this is necessary to activate the product; please create an internet connection and rerun the activation (I tried several other sites -- CNN, yahoo, etc. and they connected)
  • Downloaded norton, installed, tried to run LiveUpdate, got this message: unable to connect with server (Again, I *am* connected -- CNN, yahoo, etc. and they connected)
  • Downloaded Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware -- told it to run . . . but it never starts. No error message, nothing.

I was able to download and install (and run) CCleaner.

Can you please help me get through the 8-steps, so I can get back to trying to fix the preliminary issue? I'm growing frustrated.

Thanks in advance,
jacee

Found this via research, posting here for others . .

When you can't connect to activate or update antivirus software (as indicated above).

(Too new to post a link, so search for topic116603 here.)

This fixed my activation issue. I am now able to resume the 8 steps.

I've finished the 8-steps. Logs are attached, but I need someone to check them, as I only know enough to be dangerous.

Please advise on next steps for further "treatment" and/or what the heck to do to prevent this from happening in the future. I feel like firefox browser might have made me feel a bit safer than I really was apparently.

Thanks in advance,
Jacee

-> No action taken on MBAM scan, for found issues
Download and Run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. <========= Not Done

Please re-run Malwarebytes
Confirm updated (third tab)
Then do the above quoted message, but this time "Remove all found issues"

By the way, you will need to then restart, and run (and attach) a new HJT log

Thanks for taking a look.
I am re-running Malwarebytes right now. Didn't realize I hadn't done the removal.
Will post new log after restart.

Kind regards,
Jacee

Okay -- re-scanned and malewarebytes found no issues.

Restarted.

Ran new hijack, attached here.

Am I clean now? If so, what do I use for "protection" now to keep this from happening again?

Sorry -- not sure if my attachments attached.
