Looking to put e-book content on more devices, Amazon has released the Kindle for PC beta today, allowing its customers to purchase and read books from the Kindle Store right on their computer screens -- even if you don't own the actual device. On the other hand if you already have a Kindle, iPhone or iPod touch, the free application will let you sync your purchases across all of them.

WHY?!?!?!?!?!? We don't need another file format. We don't need another piece of software to read e-books.
  3. It's not a new format, so much as a way for people with laptops and computers to enjoy eBooks without having to buy yet ANOTHER electronic device.... I think it is simply BRILLIANT! it opens up the eBook market to more people, and eventually people will purchase a kindle or (heaven forbid become a lemming) and buy and iPhone or iTouch to enjoy their purchases on.
