  1. Only in your mind do the amd drivers win in high res multi monitor, all the benchmarks have proven otherwise, AND nVidia is smoother, and has better software, like centering the taskbar, surround, and 3D, all superior to amd, not to mention bezel peek !

Another amd fan bites the dust, and lives in lies.

    Oh the irony...

Either of the top end cards are awesome and both have positive and negative points including problem driver support from both camps, anyone who thinks different is deluded. Oh and personally I much prefer AMD's Catalyst software to nVidias control panel.

  3. That's hilarious hardware enthusiasts talking about 2x GTX680 SLI overkill for 2560x1600 or using a single of these $500 HD7970/680 cards to drive 3 monitors in demanding/modern PC games.

Do you people even bother reading reviews or just fight over 3-4 fps win from one side of the other to tout your team as the superior one? Raise your hand who wants to play PC games at 25-37 fps at those resolutions with AA? Anyone?

The fact of the matter is even if HD7970 wins by 20% at triple monitor gaming, it won't make games any more playable. Anyone using higher resolutions or multiple monitors is going with 2 cards. At that point, the performance differences will be larger negated and more affected by how well drivers are optimized. In this generation, SLI works a lot better than Crossfire, once you add up 2x GTX670s (say Gigabyte Windforce 3x) for example vs. 2x HD7970 CF, the power consumption difference grows even more, while the noise levels will skyrocket even more for HD7970 setup.

Imo, AMD wins single-GPU round at 1920x1080/1200 this time since it offers a more well-rounded card and can catch up to GTX680 in BF3, while handily beating it in Crysis / Warhead and Metro 2033. However, for multi-monitor gaming, NV offers more consistent drivers as has been shown by countless forum users from AnandTech to HardOCP to TechPowerup.

Regardless, the bang for the buck on the high-end is still GTX670 and AMD hasn't addressed it at all. GTX670 will continue to sell better than 7950 and 7970. AMD needs to release a Ghz edition of 7950.

What is the point in this GPU?

    >No architectural differences between this "GHz Edition" 7970 and the standard 7970
    >Same crappy stock cooler
    >Slightly different clock/memory frequencies
    >More expensive than a custom 7970.

Who would be dumb enough to buy this?

What about GTX 690 ? Isst that one faster than the GTX 680 model? Or is the 690 not a singe cpu... I am confused...
  8. The 690 is a dual-core GPU and it's probably faster than any of the aforementioned GPUs.
  9. ^Dual GPU

How come this card was not overclocked by the reviewer ?
  10. 7950 Ghz edition won't be enough. AMD should reduce it's 7900 price.
