In brief: AMD's Radeon RX 7600 has been pictured weeks before its expected launch date, and this once again confirms it will come with just eight gigabytes of GDDR6 memory. As with all upcoming mainstream GPUs, pricing is what will determine its success, and the rumor mill says Team Red has decided set the MSRP at no more than $249.
AMD CEO Lisa Su recently confirmed that it will launch mainstream RDNA 3 cards in a few weeks, possibly around Computex later this month. The rumor mill says Nvidia will also launch its GeForce RTX 4060 Ti around the same time as Team Red, and a common theme with these upcoming products seems to be that they all come with eight gigabytes of graphics memory – a rather modest amount now that AAA games require around 10-12 gigabytes if you want to enable high quality textures.
Thanks to an anonymous enthusiast (via VideoCardz), we now know that retailers are already preparing for the launch of AMD's Radeon RX 7600 graphics card, meaning it won't be long before we see an official announcement. The model in question seems to be the Sapphire Radeon RX 7600 Pulse, and it was spotted at an unnamed store in Asia. Separately, @Komachi_Ensaka spotted a listing for the same card on Carousell, an online marketplace.
The packaging reveals the RX 7600 is based around the Navi 33 GPU with 32 RDNA 3 compute units (2,048 shader units) and 32 megabytes of Infinity Cache. A recent leak suggests it will slot somewhere between the RX 6650 XT and the RX 6700/6750 XT in terms of performance, though it's possible the 8GB frame buffer may turn out to be a major limiting factor in games like Forspoken, The Last of Us Part I, Hogwarts Legacy, and The Callisto Protocol.
Interestingly, the person that took pictures of the Radeon RX 7600 boxes claims the card will have a retail price of $249, which seems unlikely. It's easy to think of it as a sensible price, considering you can buy the RX 6650 XT can be found for around $270, while the RX 6700 XT/6750 XT (which come equipped with 12 gigabytes of VRAM instead of eight) can be found for as low as $335.49.
At the same time, an RX 7600 priced at $300 or higher would likely be dead on arrival, though we may well see a repeat of the RX 6600 story, with the new card launching at a high MSRP but gradually dropping to a more palatable price point. In any case, take the rumored $249 MSRP for the RX 7600 with a large grain of salt as we have yet to confirm its validity.
