Anti-piracy group wants to legally deploy rootkits against pirates

The moment that happens I will switch over to Linux. I know Linux isn't exempt from having rootkits and malware, but Linux evolves so quickly that the rootkit authors couldn't keep up. Or the company dumb enough to hire people to make them wouldn't be able to afford it.

It's much easier to make ransom-ware when 90% of the people are using Windows. I'd like to see them try that on Mac. I'm sure the Apple lawyers would love it.

Oh so you empathize with software company but not with normal users who never pirate a day in their life but can't return any software that they don't like or don't function proper on their system just because of a s s ho le pirates that ruined things for the rest of us and now we are forced to be pirates to avoid not being able to return some crapy software that just crashes all the time. I think we should take a multi-pronged approach to combat pervasive moral laxity and illegality in all of it's most insidious forms.

First, bring back "Prohibition". Deny these godless downloaders the devil's brew. That'll make them think with a clearer head before infringing on anyone's sacred intellectual property.

Second, initiate no tolerance enforcement the "Mann Act" once again, even between married individuals. This will prevent heathens in heat from traveling to another state and hooking up to the music of illegally ripped mix CDs.

And finally third, make running around with your a** hanging out of your pants a capital offense (*). Will that curb illegal downloading? Probably not. But I think most of us are sick of looking at it anyway. I know I sure am....

(*) Individuals caught with low hanging trousers should not be given the benefit of constitutional protection from cruel and unusual punishment. Put them in front of a firing squad, and give the law abiding citizens benefit of their last request. Mine would be, "make them listen to country music for at least an hour, then shoot 'em"

My vote goes to devolving! With social entitlements doing the grunt work of raising children, parents passing out five dollar bags of crack and heroine as a source of supplementary income, and having no other marketable skills, it shouldn't even give one pause to even hint or hope that we're "evolving". I remember a statement made which ties into this. old business practice tactics used through ignorance (of how the new digital market works) to crush modern digital business. The right approach has never been to funnel and punish customers. All around the world it has been 'offer something better' not 'restrict all options'.

To be honest, I don't understand why people feel the desire to steal movies... Just sit your lazy cheap backsides down and wait a few weeks and the rental places will have it and you can watch it there anyhow... The need to steal it and watch it right now and the 'American' sudden attitude that they 'deserve' to do so just makes me sick. And before ya'll get any ideas, I am American myself too and the rest still disgust me. Things like that and also their attitude with the environment and throwing trash on the highway, etc. They just don't care about anything but themselves. They think they deserve everything for nothing and this is a prime example.

HOWEVER; these are NOT the solutions... I still want to buy my bluray disks... I still create my private media libraries for my private media server. I do NOT share them and it is encrypted so if someone steals the rig and tries to hack the raid array it will self wipe the entire array. Chances are very, very slim my material gets out to the public. I still have never, and will never, torrent a movie or tv program. I'm not rich my any means.. lower-middle... I just have my self respect and honor and if I want to see something, I rent (stream through hulu/netflix/etc) or buy it. I don't have to see it that day and if on the very rare chance I do I go to the theater...

Quite honestly I think they should start pushing the harsher penalties for people torrenting movies and tv shows and games. That really is blatant theft. Much of the reason the prices on the same is as high as they are is because of the very high level of theft. Someone has to pay for it. (to the pirate "they didn't lose money cause I wouldn't have spent it anyhow"... that is such bull and you know it. If you don't, you are just a real *****. Anyway you slice it, nothing gave you the right to pirate whatever it was... There is no 'excuse' good enough to make it OK. Ever.

Guess no one has ever thought of a program that deletes the pirated content. If you already have the ability to enter a pirate's computer and cause destruction, why not just go in, find the material, and delete it. Sure you can leave a nasty message afterwards but no need to destroy the poor guy's computer. How else will he (or she) look at porn?
