Anyone familiar with Ning?

I've read a little about it, looked at their site, but for the life of me can't quite figure it out. And I hate places that make you register before you even know if you want to partake!

I don't see any list of the networks. I don't see any information about whether you can just sign up for any network, or if more is involved. I don't see anything about whether you can sign up for an unlimited number of networks, or just one. I don't see anything that shows what the networks look like.

Am I missing something? I mostly just see promotional-type information there.

There may be more than one Ning. But Wikipedia can tell you a Ning or two. Ning is an online platform to assist people in creating their own social networks. It has been around since sometime in 2005.
Ning was co-founded by Marc Andreessen and Gina Bianchini. Ning is Andreessen's third company (after Netscape and Opsware). The word "Ning" is Chinese for "peace"
If that helps...
It doesn't look like a bad or uncontrolled site.
