Apple has identified a problem with some its Time Capsule wireless backup devices sold between February and June 2008 and is offering to repair or replace them. According to a Knowledge Base article posted on its site, the devices in question could shut down unexpectedly, or worse, may not power on at all. Apple's advisory is not an official recall, though -- the company is only asking for those with affected units, rather than every device within the time frame.

Those who purchased a Time Capsule with serial numbers ranging from XX807XXXXXX - XX814XXXXXX, in the aforementioned time frame, can bring their backup device into an Apple Store or other Authorized Retailer. If the problem is confirmed by the staff Apple will repair or replace it free of charge.

The replacement program covers affected models three years from the original date of purchase, so if your Time Capsule purchased in 2008 starts having power issues in a few months you'll still have until 2011 to bring it in. Also, customers who previously paid for a repair or replacement related to the same problem will receive a refund.
