WTF?! Apple recently added two more highly-desirable items to its product line in the form of the new MacBook Pros and iPhone 13. But which of its many devices would you imagine is the most difficult to get hold of right now? Bizarrely, it’s not a laptop or phone; it's a $19 polishing cloth.

Last month brought news that Apple’s reputation for overpricing products wasn’t going away. Joining the infamous $400 Mac Pro wheels and $1,000 monitor stand for the Pro Display XDR was a $19 polishing cloth, which is doubtlessly very similar or exactly the same as the one it recommended to buyers of its nano-textured Pro Display XDR monitor.

The 6.3-inch X 6.3-inch cloth, which boasts “soft, nonabrasive material” made from a nonwoven microfiber, brought plenty of mockery from those who aren’t Apple fans, but the New York Times reports that it’s the company’s most backordered new release. If you really want a $19 piece of material with an Apple logo, be prepared to wait 10 to 12 weeks—that means you won’t be able to caress your $6,000+ MacBook Pro with it until at least January 2022.

While Apple hasn’t been impacted by the chip shortage as severely as other firms, the company isn't completely immune to the situation’s effects. Despite iFixit confirming in its jokey teardown of the cloth (after the MacBook Pro teardown) that there are definitely no electronics hidden within, it seems even a piece of expensive material is seeing demand far outweigh supply. And like so many other hard-to-find products, the cloth is already appearing on eBay for two to three times its MSRP.

Never imagined there were so many suckers in the world.
But I guess Apple found the motherload and how to extract all their money.

I prefer my old "Birdseye Baby Diapers" since they are incredibly soft and cost less than 50 cents each. Of course finding them is getting harder and harder but they are incredible .... AND ..... I seriously doubt anyone under 50 has seen a real cloth baby diaper. If not, check them out ... they make these newer disposable ones look very foolish. Of course, I don't miss the old diaper pail ..... LOL

People going hungry & homeless in America and these hipster bozo wasters throw money at Apple ..for a cleaning cloth.

Humans truly are doomed.
Hey, now. After all it's made of TWO layers of cloth glued together. So, creative. That makes it worth about $2. Or, in Apple math $20. What a wonderful thing to want to use ᴺᵒ ᶦᵗ'ˢ ⁿᵒᵗ. What kind of worldview is needed to actually think this will clean better than any other microfiber cloth. People must think they get more respect from others when they show they can waste money like that.

Apple users on various websites are defending the hell out of this rag.

"

I don't really see the issue. Most premium microfibre cloths are in the region of £10-£15 ($13-$20). A cheap £5 microfibre cloth from Amazon is not premium.

I've bought loads over the years for my devices and even have a large one in my car as everything is touch screen now. That was £15 on its own, so not a big deal.

Apple have priced this at the right level, the only difference is that the Apple one doesn't look particularly large."

"It really is a beautifully engineered polishing cloth and worth waiting for. "

"I don’t find a $19 cloth to be expensive if its use is for a work of art like my MacBook Pro."

insane.

Everybody knows this is a marketing stunt from Apple to trigger its haters into talking about them to generate headlines and mindshare. And from looks of the comments sections online it seems to have worked, the usual riff raff are calling Apple users stupid and other deplorables etc. Apple haters really are quite predictable.

If people really hated Apple and actually wanted them to go away they would stop talking about them.

But is has an apple logo, therefore it's more important than hungry and homeless people.

What? Homeless and hungry people are not benefiting from this? 19 bucks it must be large enough to cover someone on a cold night? An apple logo, good enough to eat I'm sure.

But seriously, aren't even the apple fans just shocked that simple costs twice the price.

These are 5 for $20.00

They're the same 7' x 7" size

Heck, go to Costco and pick up a package of microfiber towels, attach an Apple logo and go one step further by printing "Apple Certified" and sell them for $10 to $20 bucks each or for a special price of 5 for $30. I'll be waiting for China's version.
