Apple's new spaceship campus could be delayed until 2016

Construction on Apple’s new campus in Cupertino, California, is running a bit behind schedule according to a new report. The company had hoped to have the facility ready to move into by 2015 but that target date is now being pushed back at least one year.

Just a few months before his death, former Apple chief Steve Jobs made an appearance during a Cupertino City Council meeting. It was there that he announced plans to build a massive 176-acre “spaceship”-like campus to serve as Apple’s new headquarters.

According to Bloomberg, Apple wanted to break ground on the new construction this year but the city likely won’t have their environmental impact report ready until June 2013. The company still needs the city council to approve the project rather quickly and hope that residents don’t file any legal challenges.

The words “government” and “quick” typically don’t go together, as you are likely well aware of. All of this could ultimately mean that Apple may not even get construction crews on the ground until sometime in 2014.

Of course, some of the blame falls on Apple as well. In August, they told the city they would have an updated proposal ready by September. That didn’t happen which could push approval into sometime later in 2013. We’re told the updated proposal doesn’t make any significant changes to the original plan.

It seems unlikely that the city council or community residents would oppose the project. Last year, Cupertino Mayor Gilbert Wong said there was no chance that officials would say “no” to the project. Apple has since handed out brochures to residents detailing facts about the project including how it will reduce vehicle traffic around the city and add 120 acres of green space to the community.

Oddly, the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode, "Encounter at Farpoint" sprang immediately to mind when I saw Apples plans:

It's about an alien buried under an outpost, which the people at the station are killing, by draining the energy from it to support their needs.

Why I would draw that analogy with anything associated with Apple, is a complete puzzlement to me, and I'm frankly appalled and disgusted with myself for doing so......

They might as well SCRAP it....the "magic" that WAS Apple, is mostly over.
Every phone, since the original iPhone, pretty much looks & acts like the other.
iPad? Everyone has one, or a competitor. Laptop, too expensive in this economy.
Unless Apple comes out with a "gotta have" game changer, their magic is finished.

The big game changer will be small capsules of DNA from Steve Jobs - the lineups around the Apple Store will be long and there be riots.

I assume the apple-shaped toilets there will flush a special way there.

It's reverse engineered from what they found from Roswell incident.. No wonder why they're branded as the most innovative company :D

Actually, the toilets won't be Apple shaped. That would be tantamount to blasphemy.

Besides, the bite mark in the seat lid might expose the bowl water, and whatever was floating in it,

The bathroom mirrors however, will be indeed be Apple logo shaped. That will facilitate checking out whether or not you're holding your iPhone correctly, to prevent dropped calls.

Now sidle right up to that Apple mirror you handsome roguish devil, and comb that hair like you're Liberace. Make your uncle Narcissus proud...

I'm not against progress, but I will say this...

May the first iRocket land on Mr. Cook's house.

Many's the time I've thought to myself, "if had a gallon or two of, "Essence of Job", I'd be a rich man after I auctioned it off on Ebay.

I'm sure Apple has a tank car full of it, sitting on a rail siding somewhere
