Hi

Not sure if anyone can help with this. I am getting an error message when I try to launch programs or services such as speedtouch internet connection, internet explorer, spybot, etc. The weird thing is, this only happens when the PC has been on for some time and I return to to it after a period of non-use. On startup the PC and all programs work absolutely fine. Seems strange that I only get this after a while. If I shut down then restart it is fine once again. The error message is:

The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click on OK to terminate the application

About three weeks ago I had some major problems with my PC. Techspot helped me fix it and it has been running fine ever since. I have been doing regular scans with Spybot and Adaware and run CCleaner, and I also used Spybot to disable some non-essential items on startup. I am not sure if the latest error messages is something new or just a hangover from those problems. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, as always.

Hi Timtrash,

When I saw it was you posted I thought that the virus problems were back!

Have you looked at the event viewer to see what error messages you were recieving at around the times this occured?

Hey Kritius, how's it going? I wondered if you would respond to this but I didn't specifically ask for your help on the thread as I thought that would be a bit cheeky! Y'know, like I was expecting you to come help me out! Fortunately the virus problems aren't back - phew - but this is a bit odd. What's the event viewer? Not sure what that means - you don't mean the title of the windows box in which the error message is displayed do you? If so, that changes dpeending on the program I'm trying to launch. I need to travel shortly so will be offline but will check the forum later this evening. Thanks again.

Go to Start>Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Event Viewer and then look in the application log.

Check for any errors that occur around the same time that the problems occur and then use the copy button to copy the log and paste it in here.

Im doing good, as you can see its still pretty busy round here.

Event viewer error logs

Hey Kritius, sorry for the delay, I've been working away from home. I see from the forum you've been pretty busy! Here's the most recent error logs copied from my Event Viewer, in order of most recent. I'm afraid this list is long - I'm wary of pasting too much text and clogging up the boards but I thought it best to put too much rather than too little. As I said, that error message only seems to happen if I leave the PC on, say overnight, then come back to it and try to launch things.

Cheers, timtrash

Not quite sure Timtrash, maybe try posting in the windows OS board, this isnt really my field.

I would boot Safe Mode and run SFC /SCANNOW

it will verify the system files (you may need the orginal install CD)

Application failed to initalize: 0x800106ba

I have a computer that is giving me this error when the system is turned on or when it reboots: "Application failed to initialize: 0x800106ba. A problem caused Windows Defender to stop. To start the service, restart your computer or search Help and Support on how to start a service manually."

Well, I have done this and have not been able to get this error to go away. Also at the same time that this error appears, I have another error that pops up: "Error loading c:\windows\system32\aaugkuim.dll".

So, if anyone has a suggestion on how that I can get this off of the computer, please let me know.
