Assorted laptop issues

  1. spacekid Newcomer, in training

    I have this compaq presario v3000 with no screen and i wanted to format the laptop so i can use it. So i decided to connect the laptop to my lcd screen, but from here i have few problems that i don't know what to do

    1) the screen does not come up every time i turn on the laptop, maybe 1 out of 4 tries just for the screen to light up.

    2) the cd drive does not work for some reason and because of that, i cannot even format my laptop.

    3) i tried using usb drive to format the laptop, but it still doesn't work.

    anyone who knows what to do at this situation? I have know idea what to do.

    How old is this laptop? It appears that there are several things wrong with it.

    well, i bought the laptop around 3 years ago, but there was a review on the same laptop that dates may 2006, so i had it in my drawer for 2 years
