Asus’ latest entry in the budget table scene is now available at a number of retailers including Amazon, B&H Photo and GameStop in the US. The Android-powered Asus ME172V MeMo Pad, originally announced back in January, sports a 7-inch display at a price of just $150 – a full $50 cheaper than the search giant’s own Nexus 7 tablet.

As you might expect, there are some sacrifices that had to be made to get the slate to this price point. For starters, the Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core chip that powers the Nexus 7 has been sidelined in favor of a single-core VIA WM8950 processor clocked at 1GHz alongside Mali 400 graphics. Asus also saved a bit on the display as it lacks IPS technology found on a number of competing portables.

The rest of the specifications are just as underwhelming: 1GB of system RAM, a screen resolution of 1,024 x 600 and a front-facing 1.3-megapixel camera. The tablet is available in 8GB and 16GB varieties although the smaller capacity unit isn’t shipping in the US as of writing. As such, the $150 price tag means you’re getting the larger capacity unit.

It’s not all bad news, however, as the MeMo Pad includes a microSD card slot and a wider variety of color options which include pink, white and dark gray. That, and it is $50 cheaper. At that price, it’s a pretty solid deal if you are on a budget or are looking for something to entertain the kids.
