Asus P5N-D sound question

Simple problem here, just got my new mother board everything works fine no other issues besides the SPDIF not putting out 5.1 to my home theater receiver, I'll say right away it isn't the newest receiver but it does recognize dolby digital 5.1, when I try to watch a movie with 5.1 it just shows up as stereo sound. It recognizes 5.1 out of other computers and devices. The integrated video on the mother board is Realtek ALC883. Any ideas/ thoughts?

try & check on your sound manager's SPDIF OUT if you have
the selection for 5.1/surround/EAX.

also,if your SPDIF lineout dont support the stereo-to-5.1/7.1,then
you're system is just limited to throw stereo SPDIF audio.
