Asus' Transformer Book Trio is a tablet, notebook and desktop

Asus unveiled a bevy of new tech gear during a press conference at Computex on Monday but perhaps the most interesting device of them all is the Transformer Book Trio. As the name suggests, the Trio combines a tablet, notebook and desktop into a single solution.

By itself, the Trio is an 11.6-inch Android-based tablet that packs a 2GHz Intel Atom 2580 processor and 2GB of RAM. It carries an IPS panel that runs natively at 1,920 x 1,080 resolution and ships with up to 64GB of storage. We’re told the tablet ships with a 19WHr battery.

When connected to the keyboard “dock station” it becomes a dual-boot system that can run Android or Windows, switchable at the push of a button. The keyboard contains an independent CPU and battery, but not just any old CPU. That’s right, Asus managed to pack an Intel Haswell processor inside the keyboard which effectively turns the system into a capable Windows 8 Ultrabook.

Alternately, one can remove the tablet and connect the keyboard system directly to an external monitor wirelessly and use the Trio as a desktop system. Pretty versatile, if I do say so myself. Other key specifications include up to 1TB of storage, a 33WHr battery and an unknown amount of RAM.

No word yet on how much the Transformer Book Trio will retail for but I imagine it won’t be cheap. It is expected to launch sometime during the third quarter of this year although we’re likely to get more details on the machine before then.

Now THAT is interesting, I hope it'll have Intel Iris Pro 5200, so I can replace my good old vaio z21 and crappy asus w500

I could see my company benefiting greatly from this, like immensely. We are looking for something like this and we just bought the Surface Pro and it's not up to our standards, This looks like it might cater more to our needs.

So just get one of the other touch screen laptops in which the laptop keyboard twists and folds back, instead of buying a computer with two different CPUs?

We have a majority of users who are both mobile and stationary, I feel that for stationary use they could switch to windows mode and operate at a fully functional desktop level. (I mean mobile around our huge campus which spans 10+ buildings)

The app we use is both android/windows based and so while they are on the go, they could fill out their workorders/take notes/pictures etc.
