ATI vs Nvidia

Don't wanna appear like a needy noob but i've tried research and can't seem to find a good source for info. I just need advice on which of these 3 cards to buy

I want the card for use on direct 3d and opengl applications. I am coming from a design pov so i'm not so concerned about gaming ability (although i thing these are all gaming cards not workstation). Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance


512MB nVidea GE Force 8800 GT

or

512MB ATI Radeon HD 3870

or

512MB ATI Radeon HD 3870 dual crossfire (X2)

I'm not so concerned about gameing either,so i took ATI's advice and only
installed the drivers for my PCIE /A 16 1650 Pro 512 .
Not the Catalyst drivers.
Try either ATI's this way,you can always add the Catalyst Control Panel.
Don.t use the cd,go to update drivers.

I'll do that. I haven't actuallly got any card atm, though, you would recommend I buy the ATI card? That would suit my purpose for rendering etc?

the nvida 8000GT will give less trouble with drivers so that is what I would recommend.
