Do you know wether your audio is integrated, or if it isn't?

Most likely it IS integrated, and you should try finding AC'97 drivers, since that's the most common integrated sound chip.

I recommend downloading Everest (a hardware diagnostics tool), to see what audio card/chip you've got.

I did try to install AC'97 but the blue srceen comes out and the computer
restarts

Device Description Type
Analog Devices AD1981A @ Intel 82801DB ICH4 - AC'97 Audio Controller [A-1] PCI

What drivers are you installing, the latest ones, or the ones that came with your mobo?

If you are on a fresh Windows XP installation something went wrong with it, there's no reason why you should be getting a BSOD when installing those drivers.

And is your sound integrated (I assume so, judging from the fact that it is an HP)? Look on the back to see if it is a seperate pci card or if it is near the mouse/usp/parallel port connections (a.k.a. integrated). If it is a card, remove it reading labels. I like to get hard to find drivers at driverguide.com (requires signing up -- but it is free!). Whether it is integrated or not, the best bet for finding all the information/drivers/manuals you'll need will be at hp.com. Just look up your model and the rest is pert' near simple.

Regards
