    instead of running backups to your local devices like
    computer--backup-->your {DAT tape or CD/RW}
    the online backup services performs backup to an Internet Server like
    computer--backup--->yourISP--->onLinebackup.Service-->media on their server

    The importance of this capability can be seen when/if your business is burnt to the ground and all those local back CDs get destroyed with the fire too :(
