With Doom’s first closed multiplayer beta now in the books, Bethesda and id Software have turned their attention to the first open beta which gets under way later this month.

The open beta, available to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC gamers, kicks off at 12:00 am EDT on April 15 and runs through 11:59 pm EDT on April 17. It will offer the same content as the closed beta (two game modes – Warpath and Team Deathmatch – and two maps – Heatwave and Infernal).

Bethesda Associate Content Manager Anne Lewis also revealed on Wednesday that support for Doom won’t end once the game has launched. Over the coming months, id Software plans to release free content updates across SnapMap and multiplayer modes.

For those not up to speed, SnapMap allows gamers to create custom maps and new game modes that can be shared with and played by others.

Upcoming content for SnapMap will consist of map modules, props and objects, AI enhancements, editing tool enhancements and additional features and functionality. Multiplayer will also receive updates in the form of new game modes, we’re told. Again, both SnapMap and multiplayer updates will be free of charge.

Outside of those updates, there are three premium multiplayer DLC packs in the works. Each DLC will sell for $14.99 by itself or you can opt for the $39.99 season pass to save a few bucks. The first pack is due out this summer and will include the following:

  • Three new maps
  • One new weapon
  • One new playable demon
  • One new armor set
  • One new piece of equipment
  • New hack modules and taunts
  • New customization colors and patterns

Doom lands on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on May 13 starting at $59.99.

Damn it, freak the mother freaking freaking DLCs, I got on the doom lovewagon once I saw a couple trailers, and then ID comes with this freaking mother freaking pay to play maps and demons that SHOULD have been included as free content. It's just multiplayer addons that don't even have campaigns and they are selling all of them for almost as much as the freaking game is.

I'm so so so dissapointed with this turn of events.

I hardly have time to play at all, last time I played was probably a year ago so to me it's all: 'whatever..'

Gotta get use to it or change hobbies, nothing we can do now but live with paying twice for a game that never gets fully finished or polished. The business model has been working too well for game developers these last few years, why would they ever drop the prospect of doubling their money? After all these are businesses before anything else.

The only exception currently is the new Hitman, they went the other way entirely allowing you to purchase a portion of the game or the full game and receive content for the game, not DLC, as it gets developed. Although I have a feeling after they finish the main content they will release DLC just like everyone else.

The only comfortable medium in my opinion would be to reduce the base price of games that otherwise forces you to get the DLC, sadly they will always argue against this and it will never happen.

You're getting yourself worked up over nothing. Wait exactly 1 year and you'll be able to snag it all in a bundle for less than $60.

After exactly 1 year the Doom servers will probably be down due to low demand. ;)

Exactly this, I don't want to play multiplayer after a year because of dull gaming experience and multiple dlcs to buy, is like... get battlefield 4 once it's on a big discount after 5 has arrived, there will be players but not as many.

Anyhow, I got it for the single player experience, hope the mother freakers get it right... although I'm hating them already
